Jean's origins were in a small New England town, but her home was in the Great Smoky Mountains, which was so much of her inspiration.
She started drawing and painting at her mother's knee and was a Sunday painter, who loved art.
She studied oil painting first under Frank Lovejoy, and won a scholarship for special sessions at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School. She also attended Vesper George School of Art in Boston, Massachusetts.
She started painting with a palette knife in the mid seventies when She was a stay-at-home-Mom... and exhibited her work extensively throughout New England.
In the eighties and nineties, she took a different turn to create a product line of decorative slate plaques and clocks which were sold to retailers throughout the United States.
She managed her own art gallery/studio with her husband Alan Stewart - who is a graphic designer and fine art photographer and who now is freelancing.
